About the Artist:

I have painted sporadically throughout my life. I am a wife, sister, daughter, niece, parent and aunt to artists. I earned a BA in Language Arts from the University of South Carolina. I retired as a Senior Underwriter in the health insurance industry. I love my family, my garden, singing, being outside, sports and dogs. I also love to paint.

My mathematical mind is at war with my creative side. I love to play with artistic representations of the Fibonacci sequence, but it doesn’t satisfy me. I paint what evokes emotions I have difficulty expressing in real life.

I entered the Crooked Creek Art League’s juried show in 1998 and won first place in the amateur division with a watercolor. Now retired, I have more time to paint. This year, I entered again in the 2D amateur division. I did not win anything, but it was a wonderful inspirational and learning experience.

About the Artwork:

Facets of Chapin

Facets of Chapin

Chapin is changing. While we experience some growing pains, we must also fight to preserve what we all love about our town. My turtle theme represents the juxtaposition of colorful growth and natural preservation. The changes bring rich diversity of people and culture to a place bursting with natural beauty and traditional values. The two converge on the turtle’s back. The silhouette of a child fishing is reminiscent of a simple way of life we love.
