Artist Statement

As a young girl, my family always vacationed on Isle of Palms, where this 1880 “Old Lighthouse” is located. The driftwood has increased over the years as the island is washing away.

About the Artist

JJ Casey

JJ is deeply inspired by our world's natural beauty, her passion coming from the view from her living room window. JJ developed her passion for art from an early age, as she grew up on a farm in Orangeburg, SC. She loves all things flora and fauna, which fostered in her a deep love for the natural world. She spent her youth outside in the garden, climbing trees and catching lightning bugs.

After moving to Columbia and owning her own hair salon, JJ reconnected with her love for the outdoors when she spent a few seasons living and working in various national parks. During these years, she enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors, capturing God’s country on canvas. She developed a vibrant and colorful impressionist style and favors watercolor, mixed media, collage and monoprint media.

JJ now spends her days joyfully creating art at her home on Lake Murray in Chapin, SC. She is so grateful to reside in Chapin, as her Lake Murray views provide her with amazing sunsets and shining lake diamonds. Out of gratitude and care, she has also given back to her community in numerous ways. She is an officer of the Art League, the founder of the Fancy Hat Ladies Club, the founder and chair of the Chapin Historical Association, and a long time organizer/participant in the Chapin Labor Day Festival and Chapin Fall Festivals. She is also an active member of the Chapin United Methodist Church.
