September Message from Our President
September 2023 President’s Letter
Greetings, everyone!
I hope you all had a great summer. One of the special things about fall is it brings us all back together as a League to start our monthly meetings.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, September 18. Our own Vic Schuler will be sharing a presentation entitled “What Inspires the Artist?” During his presentation Vic will be doing a live demo of a charcoal drawing. You won’t want to miss it! It promises to be an educational and exciting evening. Come any time after 5:15pm for light refreshments and social time and we will begin the meeting promptly at 6:00pm. A Zoom option is available if you cannot attend the meeting in person.
Many of our members have been working hard to help make this coming year a great one for our League. I want to extend a special thank-you to everyone who is currently serving as a volunteer. We have over 150 members now, so it takes a lot of volunteers to keep everything running smoothly. Please remember to check out our website often as you will find the latest news and information about what is happening. Besides our monthly meetings with wonderful presenters, we offer several workshops during the year. We also have juried and non-juried art exhibitions, public galleries, community art projects, and other gatherings.
General information and reminders are listed below as we get ready to start another year with Crooked Creek Art League:
Reminder to renew your membership! Consider signing up as a Patron member as you will be able to receive more benefits and will also benefit the League by doing so. Also, consider contributing an extra financial gift to the League to support ongoing operations.
Complete our Member Survey on the website. This will help us in our planning for the upcoming year. Please complete the survey by Oct. 1.
Public Galleries: If you would like to sign up to display your artwork in one of our public galleries, please go to the website to register. We will no longer have a sign-up sheet at our meetings.
Workshops: Upcoming workshops can be found on our website. Patricia Raible is doing our first workshop Oct. 6-7: “Making Handmade Artist Books Using Monoprints.” Please sign up soon as this is right around the corner.
Still Hopes Exhibition sign-up will begin Tuesday, Sept. 19. Prospectus and key dates can be found online. We can only accept 50 pieces, so sign up early. Online entry will run until Nov. 21st or until we have 50 entries. Please read the prospectus carefully as you prepare your entries.
Annual Juried Show dates are posted, and the prospectus is being finalized and will be up soon.
There will not be a Library Show in November this year due to a scheduling conflict with the library. We will, however, have one in May 2024.
We had a great day representing CCAL at the Chapin Labor Day Festival. We passed out a lot of brochures about the Chapin Art Trail. People also were able to take pictures in front of the “wings” on the mural that is being painted by Nicki Peeples. The mural is located on the northern wall of a building at 115 Clark Street. Be sure to stop by to see the progression of the mural!
The TAP Gallery theme for October is “The Warmth of the Sun.” Please bring your artwork with your attached label to the October meeting if you would like to display.
Constitution Update: I would like to thank the members of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee (Bobbi Sorensen, Kay Stallings, Kay Fox, and Alex DiFrancesco) for their hard work on bringing proposed updates to the Board of Directors. After careful review by the Board, we are recommending changes to the Constitution that will be voted on at our November general meeting. The newly revised copy is being emailed to the membership along with a summary of the key proposed changes. If you have any further feedback regarding these changes, we ask that you get back to us by Oct. 6. Your feedback will be considered at the next board meeting on Oct. 9. The Board will then bring its final recommendations to our general meeting on Oct. 16, and voting for the changes will take place at our general meeting on Nov. 20.
I’m looking forward to the start of another year with Crooked Creek Art League. It will be great to be together with all of you again! We have a great lineup of presenters this year, and I’m confident you’ll be pleased. Our members are really what the CCAL is all about! Thanks to all of you for your part in making it what it is.
Sincerely,
Yvonne Beyer
