Shirley Britton

artist Ron Weathers

Shirley Britton came to Chapin in 2012 from her hometown of Charlotte, N.C. after marrying her husband Jeff and retiring from government service. After taking a beginner acrylic painting class in 2014, she discovered a hidden talent to further explore. Three years later the brushes called her and she began to seriously delve into painting and found like-minded new friends to help her along the way.

Primarily self-taught, she has taken small workshops and classes to continue to improve her skills. Her preferred mediums are acrylic and oil, and she has won awards at the state and local level. She occasionally takes commissions.

“I adore a work of art that draws you in and makes you want a closer look. My inspirations can come from almost anything that moves me to pick up my brush and try to recreate the emotion I felt when I first viewed the subject.” 4She is a member and current secretary of the Crooked Creek Art League where she finds encouragement and knowledge from the workshops they offer.
