October Message from Our President
October President’s Letter
Greetings, CCAL Members!
Our October 2024 CCAL meeting is right around the corner. I hope you are planning to join us this coming Monday, October 21 at 6:00pm. As always, you are encouraged to come early at 5:30pm for light refreshments and a time to catch up with fellow artists. After a brief business meeting we will welcome our presenter, Michael Story. The title of Michael’s presentation is “Improving Your Paintings by Mastering Color Schemes.” You won’t want to miss hearing from Michael as he discusses and demonstrates the key fundamentals for mastering color.
You still have time to check out all the entries our league members and others entered in the SC State Fair. The fair will run through Sunday, October 20. Congratulations to our members who were award winners this year! A complete list can be found on our website.
Following is a list of information for your convenience:
Our Irmo branch library show will run through Friday, November 1. Plan to stop by to see all the wonderful artwork on display. Pick-up of the artwork will be on Saturday, November 2.
Our next workshop will be “Observational Drawing” with James Busby on Saturday, October 26. The workshop will focus on drawing accurately and the ability to draw what you “see” and not what you know. More details can be found on our website. Hurry to sign up online for this exciting one-day workshop.
We still need members to sign up who would like to display their artwork at one of our public galleries. The number of pieces needed varies as well as the display timeframe. You can find out more information and sign up on our website under “Galleries.”
Plan to participate in our Friday-Saturday November 8-9 workshop with Campbell Frost. Cambell will be teaching about glazing techniques in acrylics: creating depth, distance, and the illusion of transparency in a painting. You can find out more about this workshop on our website under “Workshops.”
Our Still Hopes Exhibition registration is open and waiting for you to sign up! Please go online to read the prospectus regarding entering. Online only registration will be open through November 21. We will be accepting a total of 50 pieces of artwork. The show will run from November 30 – February 1. A reception will be held on Saturday, December 7.
Don’t forget to renew your membership for this new league year. Due to the storm and so many who were without power and internet, we have extended the due date until October 31 to pay your dues without an additional $10 late fee. Dues may be paid at our members’ meeting, online, or mailed to the Crooked Creek Art League.
Our next TAP Gallery theme beginning on Monday, October 21 is “Seasons of Change.” Plan to bring your original piece of artwork along with your gallery wall label to be on display at Crooked Creek Park for the next month. For a list of all other upcoming monthly themes please visit our website and check our “TAP Gallery.”
Our Annual Juried Show Activity Calendar and Prospectus is online. Please mark your calendar and start planning for this exciting show. Registration will be open on January 1, 2025.
Just a reminder, if you are unable to attend our meetings in person, we also offer them by Zoom. A link to the meeting will be emailed to the membership on the day of the meeting.
I hope to see many of you at our October meeting. Please come early and enjoy spending time with friends as well as getting to know our new members. Remember to visit our website often for the latest news, updates, and opportunities to register for our shows and workshops.
Sincerely,
Yvonne Beyer
