October Message from Our President

Crooked Creek Art League Logo

October 16, 2022

Dear Fellow Members of the Crooked Creek Art League;

I hope this letter finds everyone healthy and ready for an exciting year. We will meet in person as well as Zoom on Monday, October 17th, 2022. For those planning to come in person, the refreshments and social time will begin at 5:30 p.m. with our business meeting beginning promptly at 6:00. The Zoom will open at 5:45 for you to log in. The Zoom Link for our meeting is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89404936824. We encourage as many as possible to please come in person. We understand those that cannot so we use ZOOM. If you missed our first meeting in September, you missed a fantastic presentation by Tony Carr. He was amazing and gave us some great ideas to work with 3D art. He has some of the most amazing work that is displayed publicly around Augusta. Please go check his website if you get a chance.

Our presenter for our October meeting will be Susan Mayfield, GO BOLD! Painting Dynamic Landscapes in Pastel. This will be a demo and brief lecture on how to “go bold” in your pastel landscapes. This presentation and demo will explore ways to make your paintings more compelling, more powerful visual statements through the luminous medium of pastel. Mayfield will present solutions and methods students can use to push value contrasts, utilize color schemes, choose more interesting compositions and develop more effective ways of telling your “story”.

Our Portrait Painting - Workshop with Robert Maniscalco was very successful. Robert is an amazing artist. I look forward to hearing wonderful reports from those that attended. Our next workshop will be Fri, Nov 11th and 12th at Crooked Creek Park Art Room, "Limited Palette Color Workshop" with Laurie Meyer, is filling up fast. We are excited to have this workshop as well. Our numbers are reaching capacity so don’t miss out. Again, check the website.

Our first Exhibit at the Irmo Branch of the Lexington County Library will have take in on October 29th. We have extended the deadline so don’t miss out. The best part of this exhibit it that it can be an older piece of your great art work. It does not have any restrictions other than size. Please check this on line as well. They love our work and want us to display it for their patrons. Online entry is still available now.

Still Hopes is just around the corner. Hope you are working on your new pieces to enter. This show has been a great success in the past. We look forward to having another great year with the Still Hopes community. Quick note: we are taking in the art work at Still Hopes this year instead of at the Crooked Creek Park. If this poses a

hardship, please let us know. We can help if you need us. This show is limited to only 50 pieces of work and is one of the shows with our most works sold. Don’t wait until the last minute. Check the website for the prospectus and important dates.

The Chapin Fall Arts Festival was a success. Thank you to Sandra Oliver for spearheading this event. Thank you to TC Bowers for lending us his tents and walls. It was a beautiful set for CCAL. Thank you to Bobbi for the use of your racks and her beautiful works.

The community art project is in the process of getting the last things in place. Barbara will be sending out more details about what we have to accomplish. Please stay tuned.

  • Congratulations go out to many of our members that have received recognition over the last meeting. There were some from the SC State Fair winners as well as other competitions. Please check our blog on the website to see all of their accolades. A reminder that your information about special displays, honors, awards, etc. should be sent to Sandra Oliver for inclusion in our blog. soliver497@bellsouth.net

I am glad that we are back in person this year for the most part. I hope all continue to do well and grow through our Covid-19 experiences. Our meeting will end at 7:30 p.m. as the park closes at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully,

Kay Fox, CCAL President
