New Workshop!! Painting with Campbell Frost

Crooked Creek Art League is pleased to offer an exciting new workshop opportunity with Campbell Frost.

When:  Nov 8-9, 9am-4pm

Where: Art Room, Crooked Creek Park, 1098 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin

Workshop Description (from the instructor):

Glazing techniques in acrylics; creating depth, distance, and the illusion of transparency in a painting. A discussion and demonstration using oil paints will also take place, but because of time limitations required for oils to dry, this first workshop will focus on using the techniques with acrylics, water, and a mixing medium.

About the Instructor

Campbell Frost's first published work of art, a pencil sketch, appeared in the nationally syndicated "Ripley's Believe it or Not" daily newspaper feature in the 1950s, this honor had previously been bestowed upon Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Schulz.

After serving in the U.S. Army in the 1960s, Campbell attended The University of Tennessee, where he obtained a degree in Fine Art.  He subsequently studied advanced art techniques at other Southeastern institutions as well. Since that time, he has taught an estimated twenty to twenty-four thousand students to paint in classroom settings, with class sizes typically limited to 10 students or less. He had to give up judging paintings in regional arts shows because so many of those applying were current or former students.

Campbell's paintings are licensed internationally, and appears on products ranging from calendars to digital jigsaw puzzles, to commercial quilting fabric. His prints are sold by retailers in store and online, to include Lord & Taylor, Kohl's, and the former Bed, Bath, and Beyond stores.

In his eighty-second year, Campbell still drives himself to classes and workshops throughout South Carolina on a weekly basis, with one class (in Orangeburg) that's been going nonstop (with a brief break caused by the COVID pandemic) for 46 years.

In early 2024, the South Carolina Arts Commission bestowed its highest honor, "The Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts," upon Campbell.  He has since been featured on educational television programming, and has other broadcast projects upcoming.
