January 2021 Presenter: Jan Swanson
We invite you to join us at our meeting on Monday Jan 18, 2021 for some fun and fellowship! This is our monthly members meeting. Hope to see you there - members and guests welcome!
Due to COVID and in light of increased safety and social distancing guidelines, we are (for now) going digital. So, we're bringing this meeting to you online - straight to your home studio or sofa, so we can stay connected during these unprecedented times.
For our January presentation, local artist Jan Swanson invites us into her large studio overlooking Lake Katherine to look at her work and talk about her processes and influences. Her style is colorful, quirky, playful and wonderfully and uniquely her own. Sometimes she works in oils, but these days her work is largely mixed media. She finds inspiration in everyday things that she finds on the street, shadows, found pieces of paper and experiences. She says art and design are everywhere if you just look for it. She collages, sands, scrapes, and paints her way to a finished piece, continuing to work on a series of paintings simultaneously over a period of time. Her paintings have a sense of humor often reflecting her life and experiences. Her philosophy is simple yet profound: "Painting and art should bring you joy. Your art should reflect who you are! I feel as if all my paintings are me and that you can see me in all of them. That is the goal, I think."
