February 2025 Presenter: Lucy Bailey

We invite you to join us at our meeting on Monday February 17, 2025 for fun and fellowship.

This is our regular monthly members meeting. Hope to see you there - members and guests welcome!

This month our presenter, Lucy Bailey, will present:

Multidisciplinary Art (AKA Just Making Things)

With a late-in-life start in figurative ceramics, and an even later exploration of fiber-based mixed media, Lucy will share how the joy of making (sometimes) turns into art.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Lucy Bailey works from her home studio in rural Irmo, SC. Having completed a career as a licensed counselor and school psychologist, she is now devoted full-time to making.  Bailey’s late-in-life pursuit of art began with figurative ceramics, which remains a focus of her work. While the figures have a story of their own, Bailey invites the viewer to weave their own narratives around the characters she creates. Images such as tally marks, skulls as a memento mori, crowns, ladders, and pictographs are often repeated. Work may include found objects including bones, fiber, feathers, and sticks. After firing with a copper carbonate wash, thin layers of acrylic are applied along with inks, powdered mica, or graphite. In addition to ceramics, Bailey creates a series of fiber-based art made with vintage children’s gowns that are altered, distressed, rust-dyed or painted, embroidered, and embellished. She also produces a mixed media series featuring photographs transferred to paper, corrugated fiberboard, and fabric.  Her art has been shown in juried and invitational shows in SC, NC, and GA. Bailey hosts Art On The Pond, an annual open studio and sale.
