Maureen Carter
Growing up I always enjoyed sketching, painting and crafts but I was never serious because I was busy raising my family and making a living. When I retired I started taking classes from Anna Kay Singley who introduced me to everything from collage to making paper, to acrylic, to printmaking, to pottery, to watercolor and many other creative media.
I love learning from other artists and try to combine my thirst to learn with my desire to travel. Some of my favorite subjects are of places I have visited around the world and some of my favorite paintings are images created from my photos or pieces I paint on location.
My style goes from semi-realistic to somewhat quirky. My favorite media is watercolor – I love how the water and pigment work together to create an interesting and sometimes unexpected result. I also work in collage and acrylic. I am a member of SC Watermedia Society and Crooked Creek Art League where I served as Treasurer for eight years and recently as Workshop Co-Chair. I have won awards in various competitions and love the thrill of winning but the best satisfaction comes in creating something that satisfies my own critical eye.
CCAL Gallery Host:
The Coffee Shelf has long been a place to enjoy a wonderful brew and tasty sweets in a comfortable environment. What better place to also enjoy art? We are excited to partner with The Coffee Shelf to showcase the artwork of local artists.
Two artists are featured in this gallery with each display. Each artist has a 8x10 wall to display a dozen or more pieces of wall hanging artwork. The displays rotate every two months. The gallery, which is located in the lobby of The Coffee Shelf at 130 Amicks Ferry Road in Chapin, is open to the public during normal business hours.
