Anne Hightower-Patterson now concludes her sixth decade of artistic creation, having established herself as an acclaimed figure in American watercolor art. A signature member of the American Watercolor Society, Anne is celebrated for her achievement of the High Winds Medal in their annual competition. She maintains signature memberships in the Transparent Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain Watercolor National, and several esteemed state organizations.

Her art portfolio offers a deep dive into her Southern roots, capturing the essence of Southern life with soul-stirring depictions of African Americans, sun-drenched landscapes, and luminous still lifes.

Born and raised in South Carolina, Anne embarked on her artistic journey at 12, spurred by her school's art education program. This early exposure was a defining moment, sparking a lifelong passion for art.

After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art in 1972 and an M. Ed. 1975 from the University of South Carolina, Anne dedicated nearly three decades to education before retiring in 2002. She now devotes her time to painting in her studio and imparting her knowledge through classes and workshops across South Carolina and the Southeast, where her extensive experience as both an artist and educator makes her a sought-after instructor and adjudicator.

Her exceptional work has been highlighted in Splash 16, 17, and 18, and she was featured in Watercolor Magazine's Watercolor Showcase in April 2016 for her piece "Fishermen's Tales." Her acclaim continued in 2016 when Watercolor Magazine named her one of the "Ones to Watch," recognizing her as one of ten emerging artists nationally.

Achieving her long-cherished dream, Anne earned signature membership in the American Watercolor Society in 2022. Her numerous accolades and features in articles and books, including a prominent piece in Fine Arts Connoisseur Magazine, attest to her esteemed position in the art world.

Most recently, in 2023, her work "Contemplation" was honored in the Artist Magazine's Over 60 Competition, further cementing her legacy in the art community.
