Artist Bio

Ruby DeLoach

artist Ruby DeLoach

Ruby developed a love of nature growing up in a history book on Blackstock Road in Union County. Stories of the Revolutionary War and the Battle of Blackstock where often told Tales of Old Bloody Bill Cunningham could conjure up nightmares. She, her sister, and cousins enjoyed walks along old Indian trails, through woodlands and open fields discovering wildflowers and observing landscapes with waves of wheat blowing in the wind, making grasshoppers spit their tobacco, whistling bobwhite bird calls, and viewing the smoky blue mountains horizon sunrises and sunsets at the Appalachian Foothills. Passionate feelings direct her brush in oil, watercolor and acrylic mediums. After 40 years as an educator, Ruby retired, cleaned out her attic, hired a contractor to add a dormer and created an art studio where she has written and illustrated two children's books (Earth Turns on Its Axis and . . . and Growing Little Green Thumbs - SC Book Festival Selection). Appalachian Mornings, her third book is a novella for readers. Playing in the Dirt is her last release. The G.R.O.W! theme of Great Readings Open Worlds echoes through all her books which are available at Palmetto Fine Arts and The Coffee Shelf. She continually adds to her Wild Things and Lucky In Love series. If you desire a children's book, a piece of art for your home or a gift, email her at rhdeloach@aol.com and stop by and meet Ruby in person.
