About the Artwork

“Blue” is a portrait of two Spix macaw birds. Depicted in the movie “Rio”, these birds have only recently begun to make the journey out of near extinction. The first flock to fly freely within its homeland in Brazil was only just released from captivity in early 2022. I was drawn to paint them for this reason and because of the many shades of blue and texture that their feathers offered to me.

Kelly Bryant is a Connecticut native but has called South Carolina home since 2005. A newcomer to the art field, she began her journey during COVID lockdown when finger painting with her daughters sparked something more. Kelly enjoys acrylic paints and animal portraits but leans towards birds in particular. She is self-taught and thanks technology for the gift of YouTube and the artists that populate its channels. Kelly lives in Columbia with her husband, 2 daughters and 3 cats.
