Bobbi Sorensen began studying art in College in Los Angeles in the 1960s, earned an undergraduate degree in Art Education from the University of Maryland, and a master’s degree in Political Science from George Washington University, Washington, DC. One of the works created at the U of M was purchased by the University for its permanent collection.

After graduation, Bobbi was disappointed to learn that there were too many art teachers, and she had to join the job market in an area different from that which she planned. Bobbi worked for five years on the US Senate Labor Committee, as a registered lobbyist for the College of American Pathologists, and as Executive Director of the Westchester (NY) Academy of Medicine, the Medical Society of Northern Virginia, and finally as Executive Director of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis, a training institute affiliated with George Washington University. During these years she limited herself to doing occasional charcoal portraits and designing and producing association newsletters.

Bobbi retired, moved to SC, and joined the Crooked Creek Art League, which she credits for stimulating her interrupted creative growth. She has served as Secretary of the Board, as Chair of the Fall Juried Show at Still Hopes in 2019, 2021 and 2022, Chair of the exhibition at the Irmo Library in May and November of 2022, and as Chair of the Bylaws Committee. Bobbi regularly displays at area galleries and businesses and takes advantage of the League’s diverse workshops. After finally setting up a home studio and picking up a brush, Bobbi has entered and won awards in CCAL Juried Shows in, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, including first place Amateur in 2020 and third place Master’s in 2021. The painting hanging at the Chapin Chamber of Commerce this month, Boy with a Bird, depicts the son of a friend living in the Netherlands and will be entered in the 2023 Spring Juried Show.

Bobbi’s philosophy is that it is never too late, and she is making up for those years when a career interfered with her growth as an artist. Participation in selected local shows, and commission sales, now consume Bobbi’s time. Other work can be viewed at www.bobbisorensenart.com and on her gallery on www.crookedcreekart.org.
