August Message from Our President
August 2024 President’s Letter
Greetings, CCAL Members!
I hope you have all had a great summer and are now looking forward to getting back to the art league activities. Our first meeting will be here before you know it! The board has already had its first meeting, and we are busy preparing for all the fun events that will take place this coming year. I hope you will make plans to be part of the many opportunities that Crooked Creek Art League offers its members.
As in the past, our monthly meetings are held on the third Monday of each month beginning in September. Our short business meeting will begin at 6:00pm followed by our special presenter for the night. Come early and enjoy social time and refreshments at 5:30pm. Our members provide the refreshments, so please sign up to help bring food when we pass around the sign-up sheet. Our first meeting will be held on Monday, September 16.
As the president for this coming year, I would like to thank all of you who served on our board, committees, or service and support team during this past year. Also, thank you to those who stepped up when asked to help with events on an as needed basis, or brought refreshments to our meetings. Our organization is run solely by volunteers and without volunteers we would not be able to offer all that we do for our membership of over 160!
Thank you also to this year’s volunteers. Your time given to serve our league is very much appreciated. Please don’t hesitate to contact me during the year if I can be of help. I look forward to serving together with you as we plan and navigate this coming league year.
Please remember to check out our website often as there will be a lot of helpful information posted about events as well as current news about our artists. You can find our website at www.crookedcreekart.org.
Listed below is some general info and reminders as we get ready to kick off another great year with CCAL:
It’s time to renew your membership if you haven’t already done so. The best way to do that is online. Please consider renewing at a Patron Membership level to take advantage of the extra benefits and support of the league.
Please check the website Membership Directory to make sure we are showing your correct contact information.
Each month we hold a new themed contest in the TAP (The Artists Place) Gallery, located in the foyer at Crooked Creek Park. The theme for artwork to be displayed during October 21-November 18 is “Seasons of Change.” If you would like to participate, please bring your original piece of artwork, along with your gallery wall label, to the October meeting. For further info, as well as a list of upcoming monthly gallery themes, please check the website under “Galleries.”
If you would like to sign up to participate in this year’s public gallery displays at businesses throughout the community, you may register on our website at any time during the year. As you will see, we have many businesses that display our artwork on a rotating basis.
CCAL will once again be participating in the Chapin Labor Day Festival. The festival will be held on Labor Day, Monday, September 2. We will be featuring our newest community art project, “Turtle Art Rocks Chapin.” Come by our booth and place your vote for the “People’s Choice” award. Also, you can bid on one of the turtles during our silent auction. If you haven’t had a chance to see all the turtles at their host sponsor locations throughout the town, you might consider going to see them by participating in our Scavenger Hunt (also something fun to do with your kids or grandkids.) You can download a Scavenger Hunt brochure and follow the directions. Turn your completed form in at the CCAL booth during the festival by 2:00pm to be entered into a drawing to win prizes.
The drawing will be done at 2:30pm. For additional information, go to our website under “Events, Community Art.”
Another upcoming festival will be the Chapin Fall Art Festival on Saturday, October 5 from 9:00am – 4:00pm. This will be held indoors at the Chapin Town Hall. I encourage you to participate in this fun festival.
Our exhibit with the Irmo Library will be on display beginning September 28. If you would like to participate, please go online under “Events” where you will find the prospectus and registration form. Online only registration is open now through September 20. This is a non-juried show. A People’s Choice winner will be selected and awarded a ribbon. This is a great way to showcase your work for the community to enjoy.
The prospectus for the Still Hopes Exhibition is now available online. Registration will open on September 19 and run through November 21. Please read all the procedures and guidelines carefully regarding this show as you prepare your work. This show has a limit of 50 pieces that can be displayed. The artwork will be on display and open to the public December 2 – January 31. A reception and awards presentation will be held on Saturday, December 7 from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
Mark your calendar now for our Annual Juried Show! Online only entry will be January 1 – February 20. Our big show reception and awards presentation will be held on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 5:00pm. In conjunction with our show, our lead juror, Russell Jewel, will be doing a workshop on February 27 – 28. More information to follow.
Our presenter for the September 16 meeting will be Jamie Peterson, who will be doing a presentation on watercolor.
The first workshop of the year will be “Creating & Painting 2-D (and a half!) Mixed Medium Textures” with our very own award-winning Rebecca Horne. Please go online and look under “Workshops” for more information and to sign up for this exciting workshop to be held September 20-21.
Just a reminder, if you are unable to attend our meetings in person, we will be offering them by Zoom. I will be emailing the link each month to all members.
I am very excited about our upcoming league year and the many opportunities our league will be offering its members. Please remember to introduce yourself to others when you come to the meetings so we can get to know each other. Help those who are visiting or new to our group feel welcome and want to come back. We all have a common bond of enjoying the world of art, so let’s spread that joy to our members as well as the community we live in. Hope to see you at our meeting in September!
Sincerely,
Yvonne Beyer
