August Message from Our President
August 23, 2023
Dear Fellow Crooked Creek Art League Members,
Summer is coming to a close and it’s almost time to resume our CCAL monthly meetings. The board has been busy preparing for the start of another year with new programs, workshops, events, and opportunities to showcase our artwork. Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 18. Refreshments and social time will begin at 5:15pm. At 6:00pm we will have a brief business meeting followed by our presenter. We will continue to offer the Zoom option for those who are not comfortable meeting in person. The Zoom link will be sent out the week before the meeting.
As the new president for this coming year, I would like to thank all of you who served on the board last year as an officer or committee member. Your time given to the league is much appreciated. I would also like to say thank you to the current board as we begin to serve our league membership. I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
Please remember to check out our website often as there will be a lot of helpful information posted as well as current news about our artists. You can find our website at www.crookedcreekart.org. Currently we have a brief Member Survey on our website. We would love to have your input to help us with planning our upcoming year. The survey can be accessed through an icon at the top of our website page. We look forward to hearing from you!
Listed below is some general info and reminders as we kick off this new year:
It’s time to renew your membership! The best way to do that is online. Please consider renewing at a Patron Membership level to take advantage of the extra benefits and support of the league.
Please go online to the membership directory to check that your phone and email data are current.
We are excited to announce that the presenter for our first members meeting in September will be our very own Robert “Vic” Shuler. Vic will be sharing about his journey as an artist as well as doing a live demo of a charcoal drawing. You won’t want to miss this! Vic will also be offering a workshop on Friday, November 10, entitled “Painting Engaging Landscapes in Acrylic and Oil.” Please go online to check it out and to register.
Our first workshop of the new year will be “Handmade Bookmaking using Monoprints” with Patricia Raible. For more info and to register, go to our website and look under the heading “Workshops.”
The 2023 juried Art Exhibition at Still Hopes will be here before we know it. All the info and pertinent dates you will need is on our website. Online entry will begin September 19 and run through November 21.
There will not be a November Irmo Library Exhibition this year due to a scheduling conflict for the library. We will, however, still have one in May 2024.
If you would like to sign up to participate in this year’s Public Gallery Assignments, you may register on our website any time during the year. We will also have a sign-up sheet available at the September member’s meeting. You will need to get your names on the list in order to have the opportunity to display your work in our public galleries.
For those who are displaying artwork in public galleries or have won awards, please remember to contact Sandra Oliver of our Publicity committee so she can include it on our website.
Each month we hold a new themed contest in the TAP (The Artists Place) Gallery at Crooked Creek Park. The October theme is “The Warmth of the Sun.” Please bring your artwork, along with your gallery wall label, to the October meeting if you would like to participate. For further info, as well as a list of upcoming monthly gallery themes, please check the website under “Galleries.”
I am very excited about the year ahead. I hope to see you at our upcoming meeting in September, as well as at the many opportunities our league offers during the year. If I can be of help in any way, please feel free to reach out to me.
Respectfully,
Yvonne Beyer, President
