Artist Bio:

Debra Kelly’s roots run deep in South Carolina and the local community. She grew up on a family farm in the Dutch Fork area and currently resides in Chapin with her husband and two “studio” cats. She has been a professional artist for 15 years and recently left the insurance industry to pursue her art career full-time. Her background gives her a deep appreciation for local history and farm life, as well as a desire to explore and to paint subjects that are often overlooked and forgotten.

Her subject matter includes landscapes, animals (both wild and domestic), classic cars and trucks, rusty equipment, and old homes and buildings. Debra enjoys incorporating liberal touches of color and texture, unusual angles, and detailed drawing in order to capture movement and “life” in her subjects. While she works primarily with pastels, she also utilizes acrylics and oils, and often incorporates other surfaces, such as wood and metal. She is best known for her portraits of animals.

Debra is currently a Member of Excellence of the Southeastern Pastel Society (Atlanta) and an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America (New York). She is also a member of the Crooked Creek Art League in Chapin. She has been accepted into and received numerous awards in international, regional and local juried shows. These include ArtFields, Southeastern Pastel Society International and Members Exhibitions (Atlanta), Pastel Society of NC, Union County Arts Council, Anderson County Arts Center, Spartanburg Art Museum, and others
