Artist Bio
Award winning artist Sonya Diimmler paints colorful South Carolina lake and landscapes along with her favorite subject and muse her bulldog Smedley. Having just started painting in 2015, Sonya fell in love with the process and quickly began a daily painting practice in the studio she shares with her artist mother teacher Ann Sweeney. She continually seeks to improve through frequent workshops and has studied with Mary Bentz Gilkerson, Michael Story and most recently Anne Hightower Patterson White. Sonya is very involved with Crooked Creek Art League and currently serves as President for the Chapin based League.
Her skyscape painting “Orange Descent II” won a merit award at the South Carolina State Fair in 2017. Her painting “Brown Eyed Beggars” won first place in the Amateur Division at Crooked Creek’s Annual Juried Show in 2018 and the abstract “Grille Soleil” earned a merit award in the same show.
