BB&T Bank on Art Gallery - July-Sept
CCAL, in conjunction with the BB&T, is proud to announce the third quarter artist on display in the "BB&T Bank on Art Gallery". The gallery is located in the lobby of the Chapin BB&T Branch and hosts the artwork of one of Crooked Creek Art League's fine artists. The display in the gallery showcases artwork by Mary Williams. Artist Bio
Mary worked as a nurse for over 30 years taking art classes at every opportunity. She began to draw as a teenager when a bout of bronchitis put her to bed for two weeks. The gift for art has come down through my family: my grandfather painted, my father sculpted birds from wood and my mother could cut out and sew a dress without a pattern. “Many of my oil and pastel commissions have been portraits. I love people’s faces and I paint not just the likeness but reflect the spirit and personality of the subject. When painting a landscape or still-life I strive to paint the essence of subject or place. Mary was awarded Artist in Resident opportunities in Cheraw, Oconee, Poinsett, Santee and Barnwell State Parks over the years. She has won awards through the Crooked Creek Art League and the South Carolina State Fair. Her bird prints and notecards can be found at Wild Birds Unlimited, Lexington and notecards at Wild Birds, Forest Drive. Some of her original work can be located at Palmetto Art and Frame, Chapin SC and 1425 Richland Street Bed and Breakfast and in her home studio. Artist statement The artist strives to lift one’s spirits, bring back a pleasant memory or give one hope when the art is viewed. The artist was commissioned to paint the 200th anniversary cookbook cover for First Baptist Church Columbia. Recently the artist has begun a project to honoring caregivers in healthcare. The first painting was of a flight nurse-Bringing Hope. The artist took this painting and made posters to display in High Schools and Military settings to encourage young people to give their lives to serve others in nursing. The oil paint is soft and buttery on my brush. When I’m painting, the beautiful colors and textures, transcend me to another world. It is a blessing to create images of our life and time.
