Special Invitation from SCSVAD

All CCAL members are invited to a special workshop the School of Visual Art and Design is hosting.

It’s free with all supplies included. This class is conducted as part of the Visiting Artist and Scholar Series by Visiting Artist, Eloisa Guanlao.

Step back in time and discover how exquisite nineteenth century ambrotype portraits and still lives were created on glass. This workshop will introduce you to the wet plate collodion process, in which a sticky collodion emulsion is spread on glass, immersed in a solution of silver, and while still wet placed in a medium format camera to capture a one of a kind image.

In addition, you can also join an Extended Artist Talk by McMaster Gallery's exhibiting artist Eloisa Guanlao.

You will get a chance to learn more about her work, influences, inspiration and techniques. Ms. Guanlao will also talk about her solo exhibition, Darwin's Finches, opening at McMaster Gallery on Tuesday, October 19.

Eloisa Guanlao was born in the Philippines. Her experiences as an immigrant and nomadic scholar-artist influence her versatile art practice and critical inquiries. Eloisa’s interest in the natural world, history, art, languages and literature began at an early age. This multifaceted passion was nurtured at the Los Angeles High School for the Arts in California, cultivated with a liberal arts education at Carleton College in Minnesota, and further developed at the University of New Mexico, where she received her MFA in Studio Art.
  Because Eloisa considers art making a social and cultural endeavor, she pursues projects that are research intensive and relevant to current issues. A trained teacher and lifelong scholar, Eloisa has taught at secondary schools and universities in Hawai’i, California, Maryland, and Alabama, where students and colleagues appreciate her dedication to interdisciplinary learning and pedagogy. Eloisa practices and teaches art in California.
