We invite you to join us at our meeting on Monday February 20, 2023 for fun and fellowship.

This is our monthly members meeting. Hope to see you there - members and guests welcome!

Our presenter this month is Ginny Merett.

In Ginny's presentation, "I never forget a face", she will review images of her work that depict artistic growth and describe her intent. She will describe objects and people that inspire her work, and she will show her artistic process.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Ginny Merett

Known for her eccentric collage works, Ginny Merett (1954) has been an artist and art educator for over four decades. Through those years she used various media to create art but for the last ten devoted her time to creating multimedia collage pieces. Inspired by stylish women and ordinary faces and images, she portrays unique characters using parts and pieces from current day and vintage media. She most recently was named one of the Top 15 Artists in Columbia, SC by Influence Digest (8/2022).

Ginny’s collage pieces have been shown in solo and group exhibits at Stormwater Studio, ArtFields, Koger Center for the Arts, the Jasper Project, USC’s McMaster Gallery, SC State Library, and other local venues like Sound Bites Eatery, Trustus Theater, She Festival, Cottontown Art Crawl and Melrose Art in the Yard. Her work is published in the Jasper Project’s Jasper Magazine Spring 2019 and Fall 2022 editions, and in Sheltered: SC Artists Respond During the 2020 Pandemic; and in Bullets and Band-Aids, Vol. 3.

Ginny was born and raised in Denver, and has lived in South Carolina since 1987. Art sustained Ginny throughout her life and is the cause for her every success. She constantly sewed, created, and treasured drawing as a child and sought out every art opportunity at home and in school. Because art was such a passion of Ginny’s youth, she studied art education and taught art in the public schools for more than 30 years.

Ginny graduated from the University of Georgia with a BSed in Art Education and holds two master's degrees from the University of South Carolina in Art Education (MA) and Educational Administration (MEd). She taught K-12 art, and spent many years as adjunct at the University of South Carolina working with pre-service teachers.
